1. get a helmet and some pads, because
2. you are going to fall.. a lot.

The sites talk about tricks because the basics are intangible. Either you can do them or you can't. A website is not going to be able to teach you balance - that's something you are going to have to figure out yourself on the board.
What I'd suggest is visiting the local drugstore or grocery or wherever you can buy magazines and look for Transworld and or Thrasher (assuming they still publish those,.,,, been a while for me)
Back in the day, those we re good mags to read up on stuff from.

you cant just go like " here's how to do an ollie" and do it right then and there. it takes time (a lot of time, maybe even years). you first need to learn to actually skating right without falling off at the slightest lean. you cant be able to fall that easilly and make sure you can skate switch ok but not as well as normal stance or else it will take out the fun of learning a nollie or a fakie. after youre done with that, watch some tricks on sequences or skate videos and learn what they are like kickflip or ollie or manual. tell me you know what those are. if you need more info on tricks, type skateboarding.com so you'll end up at transworld skateboarding. and if you need info on stuff thats happening, go to skateboardermag.com. yes you can contact me if you need help. the guy on top of me was a mongo. which here means that when he pushes off he does it wrong. the thing you need to do is, keep your front foot where it is,and your back foot pushes. you can turn your foot forward when pushing but when your feet are both back on the board, you are facing either to the right (regular stance), or to the left (goofy stance like me).

Try this, instead of thinking of tricks, start off by just getting comfortable on the board and keeping your balance. Once you can hold a manual for 20 sec., try riding in it. Also, learn to do simple body varials,(jumping on your board and doing a 180 and land back on your board. That should help.

Here are the steps:
1: Stand on the board
2: Push off with your dominant foot
3: Put dominant foot back on board
4: Stay on the board
