I was in a Goodwill store this morning, and my 3 year old told me he had to use the potty. The sales rep told me they don't have a public restroom. As a public store, don't they have a legal responsibility to provide a restroom?

No... there is no law that says "If you operate a 'public' store, you must provide a 'pubic' restroom." In my opinion, I don't think such law should exist. However, I believe that it should be the goal of all businesses to keep their customers happy. Providing a public restroom is a service all customers would benefit from. Therefore, all businesses should have a public restroom, but not required to by law.

Yeah. They have an employee restroom I'm sure. It's up to the owner if they want the customer to use the restroom. The company I work for has a restroom, but no one other than myself and my co-worker use it b/c that would mean that customer had to come to my side of the counter which puts me at risk. Not gonna happen.

No, a restroom is provided as a service to its customers, but they dont have to provide a public one...

they usually will let little kids in the back to use the restroom, but its usually too dangerous in the back of a warehouse type store for customers to be freely roaming back there.

they have a responsibility to provide a restroom for employees.

If they provide a public restroom, it must have some extra things (and i think there are there are minimum size requirements) to meet the fed laws about public bathrooms.

i hate it.

Every county is different but most places are only required to provide a public bathroom if they serve food and beverage for dine-in customers.

I don't think it is a law for a store like that to have a bathroom (public anyway). Ask a lawyer about the laws in your state.
