It's not a boolean choice. Each tempers the other. In a sense, science asks "can we?" while religion asks "should we?"
Religion has brought us the Crusades and suicide bombers, but it has also brought us the idea that people should be kind to each other and that it's wrong to kill and steal from each other.
Science has brought us thalidomide babies and radiation sickness, but it has also brought us penicillin and computers.
Science, totally untempered by any morality, would test ideas without concern for consequences (human or otherwise) and destroy as much as it discovers while religion, totally untempered by even basic facts about how the world works would cut humanity off from any intellectual or social development. I'd be afraid of the world where one dominated the other.

Science is a means of discovering the truth by testing.So if a person has a false religion he can use science principle ;that is puting it to a test.After One has discovered the truth an acts upon it, He can then have a real relationship with His Creator.That is what the word religion means. Its have a real relationship with our Creator.

Science, because eventually it can explain everything in a logical way that makes sense, rather than religion inventing unknowable magical beings as the source of everything.
Plus, science has given us every human creation we see around us, while religion has only given us wars.

We need both. God gave us the brilliant brain to advance in science. Through science, the world became developed and continues to develop. Religion, so that brilliant ideas of science to focus on the benifits of humans, not for their destruction.

We them both. we can't take one and leave the other, this is like food and air, we need them both.
maybe you ask this question because you feel that there is a conflict between religion and science. At least in Islam -my religion that I know very well-there is no such conflict, in fact they are compatible with each other.

Relegion gives hope and meaning to many people. Without that we can ask things like "Why shud i work", "Why am i in this world?" and "If everyone is going to die one day, why shud/shudn't do something?". Think about a world with such people. So my feeling is that harmony exist in the world because of fear for something beyond our control.
Science... hmmm... part of evolution.. it will grow as we start to question and understand things around us... i see no end
Will both merge? may be one day. One neuro scientist even claims so. Search for "The emerging mind"

We presently need more religion. I am not bbeing priesty, but its to acieve higer goal, more science. And not just quantity but quality too. By quality i mean, with proper understanding of your relegion acompanied with proper understanding of other relegions also, so that u can understand your religion. When you will be in phaze with ur religion, u will be in phaze with ur mind, as u will be in peace.
I dont like Religion as a word, u can search its origins and understand why, but i like hindi word for it Dharm, which means code of conduct, way of living. When you will in phaze with ur brain, in peace, peace with surrounding then u can work more creatively. allways remember that science and religion are not just for selected few, its for everyone, by everyone, and most importantly of everyone. I would say more science, we should try to save lives. Religion is responsible for more death, destruction, ignorance, and cruelty than anything else in history.
