For a penny 'chew' I would have to go with either Fruit Salad or a Bon Bon (the round toffee ones which were lemon or strawberry and had powder on them) - penny sweets in general I also loved Flying Saucers and Flumps (the marshmallow ones)

Kola Kubes were the absolute best and are not the same any more!! Spangles for 2p a packet were also pretty cool. Do you remember the ET biscuits made by Oreo (I think)? They didn't last long either. The clothes were probably my bets memory - puff ball and ra ra skirts with spots on, or those hairbands with weird shapes on springs, not to mention Nik Kershaw, Adam and the Ants and Jim'll Fix it. The list just goes on and on and on.

Fruit salads and black jacks

Best memory: summers spent messing around with my mates, having all-day water fights, heading off for bike rides, or seeing how many of us we could get going at once down the steepest road in the neighbourhood on skateboards. We'd get about seven of us sitting and standing on 3 boards and race downhill trying to keep the whole thing going in the same direction. Parents never panicked about skinned knees, traffic or us being abducted, just enjoyed the peace and quiet while we were god-knows-where for the day. You always hoped you wouldn't be the first one to get called in for tea - the shame!

We used to get cherry drops and mint chews from the market every Saturday. Used to get 5p packets of meanies (spring onion flavoured corn snack) on the way home from school.

Best memory was when I was in the 1st year annex and the bigger school had a fire, it was Exam time so us 1st years had a few weeks off so the 5th years could sit their exams in our hall. Ha ha ha, my big brother was in 5th year at the time so I thought it was very funny, he thought he'd get out off exams but I got a week off instead.

Also remember the bus into town used to be 19p and a can of diet coke was 25p. naff naff jackets were all the rage at one point and flicked up fringes, back combed to hell. more like 90s than 80s sorry.

My mum used to bring me a Fry's mint choc bar every so often as a treat in junior school (80s) and those pink and green crewy lollies.
