Quite possibly because both programmes have real time monitors making demands of your system resources. I am not au fé with McAfee so I will concentrate on Spysweeper. In the left hand menu, click on Shields; under the Windows System tab, experiment by removing the tick against the memory shield. I have this disabled on my pcs. See if this helps. Also try the spy installation shield and the spy communication shield. Enable afterwards if it made no difference; if you find your pc performance has improved, you should consider whether you can live without these extra safeguards. A slower pc may well be the price you have to pay for a protected pc.

Yes. It normally slows down a little if you're running an antivirus. If you're running two, it's going to be pretty slow. If you can, just stop using your computer while the scan finishes, so that more memory can be devoted to the processes you're running. It will save you some frustration as well for trying to work with a slow computer.

If you set your antivirus software to run a scan at a time when you're not using the PC, you won't be bothered by the slow down. Mine runs every Monday night at midnight.
