Anybody can paddle in water, although fat people wil displace more water because they take up greater volumes of it. Actually if you are overweight, any kind of exercise will be good for you, and from paddling to swimming would be excellent as your body get supported in the water. By trying to take exercise especially swimming you release extra pressure on your joints and reduce the risks of coronary heart disease and conditions like type two diabetes. Good luck

Yes, and actually fat is lighter than muscle, so he should be able to float pretty well. Of course, the paddling might cause a heart attack...
