I live on a council estate in Manchester.I am 16 yrs old. I did no GCSES Wagged it but now want to join the?
NASA space programme and be an astronaut. I am serious about this. I have no idea where to start. Me mam will laught at me and me step dad will take the piss. Everyone round here is on income support. Some of the lads with brains in my school went to flying school at Barton..is that what I need to do? I would consider other careers too like RAF but NASA sounds so cool. I think the prettier chicks like it too. What can I do to make this happen?

There's no shortcut, I'm afraid. You need to get to college, do your GCSE's (concentrate on sciences) then some A'levels - then a degree, probably a science like physics.

If you're serious - you'll do it. And best of all, you have plenty of time in which to do it.

Good luck

If you stay as you are, with no qualifications, you have no chance at all of getting into NASA.

The best thing you can do to start is go to College and retake your G.C.S.E.'s. Don't do them all, focus on the important ones of Maths, English and Science. Maybe learning at least one Foreign Language like Spanish will prove useful.

From there, obtain A-Level's in the same subjects.

The exact details on what to do next depend on what NASA's entry requirments are.

You may find it helpful to find employment in the European Space Agency.

Being 16 will work in your favour as education within the UK is free up to the age of 18. Also, the government has an EMA programme for people like you who stay on into College. You could get up to £500, but you'd best ask your local education office for more details.

If you're serious about NASA then the sooner you apply, the better off you'll be.

But be warned, you have a long way to go and things may become hard.

However, if you stay focused and don't give up, you'll eventually be rewarded :-)

I'm afraid there are no serious answers. You first must get those qualifications without them you have not one hope of even getting a job sweeping NASA

Get to college and get some qualifications first. To get in touch with NASA just type it into a search engine but they won't even look at you until you get some education.
