A relationship is not truly committed until it's a marriage. Before
that, either person can walk out the door any time without legal
obligations. However, these days the lines are becoming blurred
and people can live together,be considered married without a
wedding.

A committed relation ship you are loyal to each other for as long as it lasts. Marriage is a permanent agreement that you will be in a committed relationship for the rest of your life. A committed relationship lasts until it goes bad. Marriage does not end when it gets bad it goes on and hopefully gets good again.

For a lot of people these days the difference is only how taxes are filed sadly. Most people are liars and go into marriage thinking if this does not work out I can get a divorce. That means they lied in the vows when the got married since they never really believed in it. If you think divorce is an option in a marriage then there is no difference between marriage and a committed relationship other then how you file taxes.

It is legally bound therefore you have more access to the other person basically. If you were to have a child, both people automatically have parental ownership. If they are not, I believe it is just the mother's child. There are also other legal aspects like accessing eachother's bank accounts and stuff like that.

In a non legal aspect, it is also a symbolic committment to stay with one another forever. Divorce was never intended to be designed, so when marriage was "invented" it was supposed to signify an everlasting relationship. In today's society, that does not happen every time, so it has somewhat lost it's meaning.

On a spiritual level, it is a sacrament. It is holy matrimony. This relates back to God and what every one else was saying.

Being married is telling God that you are going to spend the rest of your life with this person , you are never going to have sex with another person, you will work throught your problems no matter what they may be, and you will hold that one person dear to you until the day you die.

It means companionship and unconditional love. It means that there will always be someone there who knows your hopes and fears and dreams.

The difference between this and a committed relationship.. is that you haven't promised forever... marriage is forever.. and a relationship.. no matter how committed can end in the blink of an eye.

well just because you say you are in a committed relationship does not always mean that that is the truth. For most woman marriage just makes them feel more secure about the man that they are with. Most women do not believe that a man will cheat because of his 'vows'. But that is not the case obviously if you look at the statistics.

Well, I guess it would be a piece of paper and some wedding rings that really seperate the difference. If you don't want to get married but still care for each other then stay in that committed relationship. But if you feel that you want to go further and tie the knot, go for it. Good luck!

marriage is the most wonderful institution in the world depending on the foundation of the relationship. If built on true love and mutual understanding with faithfulness and honesty then it will be so blissful.this is being married which is quite different from being in a committed relationship without happiness. However, the power of marriage is unity and oneness.

personally , what I've learned from church is don't expect to be committed if you're not married, meaning neither is obligated to be with only one another. I don't want to be a hypocrite because i believe that, however I am seriously involved with someone but I see that marriage is the commitment

I view the marriage a true partnership. Both man and woman should come into the relationship not thinking "what's in it for me" but what can I bring to the other person.

I view it as someone to be with that you are happy having to be with. I don't view it as anything wrong such as the man owning me...just cuz of the marriage certificate...cuz he doesn't. Im his wife and he shold be happy he's got someone. There should be no control in a marriage...you two are married and a happy couple. What can go wrong?!?!
