Indoors, philodendrons thrive. Also ferns, but you have to mist them sometimes. Any succulent-type plants (fleshy leaves). Cacti of course.
Outdoors a lot depends on your orientation to the sun and soil quality. But certainly, geraniums, roses, jasmine and yellow night-blooming jasmine called "dama de noche." Also bouganvillia and ornamental plum trees. Hibiscus and ponsettias also do well but need more care and attention. Petunias do OK but wilt early in the season as the heat hits earlier than in other climes, of course.

You should look with plants with water retentive leaves, ie things that have small or hairy leaves or waxy leaves. I personally like the south african plants as they are slightly different from what you get in spain.ostospermans are really easy as is flax which comes in lots of different colours. But from my experience there isnt much in the garden centres so its a case of lucky if you can find it.

in case you recommend the dry, sunny, low rainfall, ex-pat factors, attempt any drought resistant flowers. All `Mediterranean` shrubs will be proper. Santolina, Cistus, Helianthemum, Lavender, Rosemary, palms. Oleander, infinite bulbs and maximum annuals, too many to record. search for for `Mediterranean plant society`, they're dedicated to gardening lower than the circumstances of that area.

olives, citrus, almond, carob, pomegranate, mastic, cuppressus, lavenders, rosemarys, santolina, succulents; sedum, crassula, yucca, agave, aloe. ooohh i like Erythrina crista galli, the coral tree, it has red waxy flowers late summer but you can get two shows per year by trimming after the first year. its deciduous and demands a hot dry position .
