They should be allowed to stop it. Scroungers really get my goat. If there's a genuine reason for not working (medical) I can understand but some people just don't want to work or are too fussy. There's plenty of work out there.

To the best of my knowledge:
You can remain on Job Seekers for as long as you are shown to be actively seeking work... moneys can be stopped/suspended if you are not active in seeking employment, or obviously if you start employment!!
On which note::: to answer your question re- Kleeneze, which I have just seen up for voting so was unable to answer!!
They are not liars..all they say can be proved.. and the company would not have been around as long as it has if it were a scam!!
It is not a get rich quick scheme: you will only get out of it what you are willing to put in... if you work it... follow the system... stay consistent and persistent in your effort..you will make a good income: which 'Could' turn into a fantastic one!! Most people who join the business expect to be making big money like yesterday: and because it does not work like that, and the fact they have to get up and 'WORK' their business... they leave or moan, as many have in answer to your question!!
If you wish to know more... or to talk to someone personally who has been in the business for five years... feel free to mail me.. or use the contact on this website...

They can and will stop the money you get, if you don't do what they tell you to do.
1. attend interviews at the dole
2. stick to the Jobseekers agreement
There is no time limit, but the idea is to send you round the bend. It is better to get a job, not just any old cr@p... though you might not have a choice in that.
Basically it works like this:
Sign On
Go MAD
or get a job...
If they stop the money you get, they can't leave you completely destitute, but life will be very hard for a few weeks / months
Have you seen The League of Gentlemen?

JSA is split into contribution and incomes based ...but regardless of which you are on, you sign an agreement that you will actively seek employment.
Your benefit can be affected by failing to sign on at the allotted time, and you can lose a portion of that benefit if your reasons are not accepted by the decision makers. If you fail to sign on at all, your claim can be closed down, and you will have to go through the process of making a fresh claim.
If you are ill, you should claim Incapacity Benefit, thereby removing yourself from the job market.
Having said that, the Government have introduced new plans to tackle the rising number of IB claimants, which means if you are genuinely ill,you will be ok, but if you are swinging the lead, you will be caught out!

You can be on it for as long as you are looking for work, the only time that they can stop it is when they become aware of a change in circumstances at your end - they cannot just decide that they dont want to give you money anymore.

As short a time as possible!
I would think 'they' (i.e. taxpayers) should stop giving you money if you turn down 3 job offers!
Obviously exceptions (either way) should be made for some (in extreme circumstances), but not as a rule!
