Why they think they will win:

1. Inflated view of English Talent.
2. Belief that just because they "invented" it they should win
3. Belief that he Premireship is the best league and thus they should win it.

Why they don't
1. The talent is good but not higher than then other top countries.
2. They can't win PK shootouts.
3. They don't come together as a team.
4. While the Premireship is one of the top leagues many of the best players in that league are from other countries.

Two reasons:-

1. If a team wants to compete to the maximum of its ability, it must believe it will win. Part of this is convincing its supporters also that it will win.

2. Kidding people in advance that the team is going to win is good for selling all that football merchandise, which makes business a lot of money.

Actually, it was not unreasonable to think England could win the World Cup this time. If we had got past Portugual in the penalty shoot-out England would have had good chances against France and Italy. Basically, our players were good enough in a not particularly distinguished World Cup (I am old enough to compare), but our management wasn't. The FA would have done better to send Sven Erikssen on gardening leave after his misbehaviours and leave Steve McLaren in charge.

England is unlikely to win in the near future. Too many places in the Premiership are taken by foreign players, there are not enough sports opportunities in schools and the lifestyle of English boys does not get them fit enough (too many cars and computers!).

They feel they have the best Pro league in Europe and the majority of those players play in the league. But to be honest, the media over hypes the English team way too much. I think England is a top 10 team at the most.

Well, the media play a major part in that but also I think the players have it in their minds that the Premiership is the best place to stay but I think some of the internationalists should try their luck in Spain or Italy, money keeps them here. I can see a few English defenders gaining more solidarity in Italy and midfielders to run riot in Spain. But why should I bother, Englnd think they're number 1 and Im Scottish!

Because we sincerely believe we have the talent to do so and with a little bit of luck, which any Cup winning team needs we will do it. The other reason is support. Your team has not got much chance if nobody else in your own country even believes it.

Brits are very egotistical. And I'm not saying that to put anyone down. I know this because my family is from Kent, England. They like to believe and boast that they are going to beat the pants of anyone they are up against in any type of competition. It's just their nature. That doesn't mean they're always great at everything. Everyone has things that they are good and bad at. England just so happens to not be very great at soccer, at least not as great as they say they are. Not to mention, anyone, in any country, is going to boast a winning game. I don't know any team that says, "We're going to lose today."

I wish I knew. More so, I wish they would. Those Brits are a sour lot when they don't get their way. Putting Americans down because they don't realize that one of their own was responsible for naming the fine sport "soccer" makes them seem so arrogant. But I would be too if my country was on a 230 year worldwide losing streak and the latest claim to fame was the taking of some insignificant island near South America.

We have the best positional players in the world but they never seem to get it right on the pitch at the same time. We always have 1 outstanding player but never an outstanding team on the field at the same time and then they bottle it at the shootout!!!

Because they are sh*t, and over payed premiership stars like Lampard and co will only play good for their own clubs because of the money...Lampard was top scorer for Chelski last season and in the world cup he scored f*uck all - he got noted for most attempts at goal without scoring!

they are so over rated and feel like they have to live up to the expectations of others, but they are clearly not as good as they are rated otherwise they would win the world cup !!!
