At the moment the best Premiership goalkeeper is probably Shay Given of Newcastle. Shay has helped newcastle a lot in recent years and because of Newcastle's poor record as of late he unfortunatly goes unnoticed. I would love to see him at a big club but at the moment Newcastle couldn't afford to do such a thing. He is one of the main reasons why Newecastle have stayed in the Premiership after a couple of shocking seasons for 'The Magpies'.
Other keepers that deserve to be mentioned are Petr Cech of Chelsea. He has played well but he has got a solid defence in front of him so he doesn't need to do much.
Edwin Van Der Sar of (my team) Manchester United was almost unstoppable last season and he is certainly a top quality player. He is getting on a bit though.
In the Scottish Premier League it's a tough choice for who's the best goalkeeper. It would be between Craig Gordon of Hearts and Scotland or Artur Boruc of Celtic and Poland.
Gordon had a wonderful season and helped Hearts get to a surprising 2nd place in the league. He also helped Hearts to win the Scottish Cup on penalties. Craig has played so well lately that he is now Scotland's undisputed no.1.
Boruc also had a good season in which he won the Scottish Premier League and League Cup. He was in competition with Scotland's other keeper David Marchall but the manager went with the Poland International for most of the season. Boruc also took Jersey Dudek's Poland place to become Poland's no.1. He had a great World Cup this year.
So if your looking to find out the best keepers well in England it's:
1 Shay Given
2 Edwin Van Der Sar
3 Petr Cech
and in Scotland it's joint 1st between Craig Gordon and Artur Boruc.
I hope this helped you.

Lehmann of Germany.
For those with long memories, Gordon Banks, the England goalkeeper in the 1966 World Cup was better than any in the world today, probably the best ever. So find a video or DVD of the 1966 World Cup!

Totally agree!!!!!! Valdez doesn't receive more goals because he has a great defense. You're right too regarding the mistakes. Sometimes he receives goals that let's the sensation that he could do something more. With a different goalkeeper, for example Buffon or Van der Sar, Barcelona can an almost invincible team. Regards

for premireship i would say Peter Schmichael. other than that, i would say Paraguay's 90's goalkeeper. Chilarvet. He's the best goalkeeper.Which goalkeeper could take excellent set-pieces?! He even scored a hat-trick in a match!

Peter Cech is probably going to be your most popular answer but that is because he is behind possibly the best defence in the country.
I am a Man City fan so have a slight bias towards David James being the best shot-stopper in the Premiership, but from a purely neutral point of view, I think for his size and everything else Shay Given at Newcastle is one of the best!
