Overrated - Nolan Ryan. He really WASNT that great...he just threw fireballs. His record and ERA are rather...ordinary.
Underrated - Craig Biggio. He hits, he steals.....he does everything and more. It seems like nobody really sings his praises when in fact, he has had a stellar, HoF worthy career.

Well I guess since he is soon to be in the Hall of Fame, Bruce Sutter is the most overrated player in baseball history. I think the true criteria for being in the HOF should be was that player among the elite players in baseball for a large portion of his career? Was he the best at his position or you could at least argue the point? Was Bruce Sutter EVER the best relief pitcher in baseball? I guess the name that keeps coming out at me is Goose Gossage, because I don't understand having pitched during the same era how anyone could ever say Sutter was better than Gossage. They shouldn't even look at stats for the HOF anymore because today's players' numbers are so much higher than years ago mainly because of the era they played in.
Most underrated I'll give to Jim Rice.

WHUU!??! people say AROD is overrated??? ok, well then you obviosuly know nothing about baseball...ARod is the greatest player (numerically) in the past last half century! Stop hating on ARod, he's a machine. and someone said Nolan Ryan was overrated?? WHU?!! so the greatest pitcher of all time is overrated?? ok, what is this world coming to. At the moment the most overrated player is David Ortiz, simply b/c his positional play is abysmal, and his stick is just power. He can't hit for avg and he can't get on base consistently, he can only hit dingers. the most underrated, (I agree w/ the guy above) is Craig Biggio. Probably one of the best leadoff hitters to ever play the game, yet he gets no acclaim nor credit. (oh, and Carlos Beltran IS NOT OVERRATED!)

I should be coming up with some better names than this, but here goes:
Overrated: The HOF pitcher, Don Drysdale ....People talk about Koufax and Drysdale, but there is a huge gap between the two.
Underrated: It's weird to pick a truly great Hall of Famer, but Frank Robinson is rarely mentioned in discussions of the all-time greats....just check out his resume (as a player, that is)....Along the lines of Jim Rice (who was greatly respected and feared in his heyday), how about Andre 'the Hawk" Dawson, a much better all-around player of the two.
It's funny when people mention Babe Ruth as overrated....in my book, it's impossible to overrate the Babe.

Overrated - A-Rod, Primarily because of his contract. He's a good player but will Never live up to 252 million dollars.
Underrated - I'm gonna say Grady Sizemore. If you follow the Sabermetric stats at all he's close to the top in runs created despite playing on a subpar team.

The most overrated player in MLB history is cal ripken jr.---okay it is very impressive that he had that string of games...but he wasn't a spectacular player---he was merely a good player with a very good glove. his bat was decent at best.
The most underrated player in MLB history is Jim rice--- the most feared hitter in baseball for 10 years yet he may never see the Hall of Fame.
by the way A-Rod is not overrated, actually he is underrated----Red sox Fan

Overrated: Alex Rodriguez
Underrated: Willie Mays
I don't think people today understand how great Mays really was...he could hit for power, hit for average, was a great fielder and could run the bases.

I can't really think of any players today who are overrated because as soon as you have a bad week, people say you suck, not matter who you are.
Underrated players:
Vladimir Guerrero
Albert Pujols (got snubbed for the MVP)

In my opinion, Babe Ruth is way overrated. He was an amazing player, but enough is enough. His records have all been topped years ago..
As far as underrated, there are many, but Tris Speaker is someone you don't hear much about...
