883

A friend of mine bought an 883 6 mos. ago and is already converting it, spedning extra $$, to a 1200. No power in the 883 and you can't sell them to save your life when/if you want to upgrade. Don't settle for a rice burner either. I know too many people that 6 mos. into thinking they got the greatest deal in the world are having Harley envy, trading for a Harley!

883 if your a girly girl otherwise a 1200 low is better even for a girly girl. but especially if your going to have a passenger at anytime.otherwise you'll look ridiculous on the 883

If price is an issue, then 883; otherwise, they are practically the same bike. If not wanting too much power is the issue, then just don't turn the right handlebar thing-a-ma-jiggy all the way on with the 1200.

This will be a surprise to some people who know me, for I have no use for the"Big Twins" except to work on them for customers. But - I could be induced to ride a Sportster. They are the only real motorcycles Harley makes, in my definition of a motorcycle. And I believe many Metric riders feel the same way. We do not want a bike which looks like it was magnatized and run through a Western Auto Store, (this was an old description, when I was a youngster - no offence, Western Auto), we want a good handling, quick accelerating, quick stopping bike, that likes crooked roads. If we want to go somewhere in air conditioned, cushy comfort, we will take the car. We do not want to carry everything, including the kitchen sink(see previous statement). We want a bike which feels good dicing into corners on a crooked road, is easy to handle in traffic, gets decent gas mileage, and even if we are not "hot rodders" feels good when the handle is rolled on. And I would not agree that they are totally gutless, (Not a 1200, at any rate). Suspect their power to weight ratio is better than a big twin. If not, I can sure fix that. I have said my piece, now you "Harley is God" folks have your fun. Tomcotexas.

I hate sportsers, but go for the 1200 - you'll outgrow the power of an 883.

The only reason HD makes the 883 is so you'll have something to trade in on Harley that's rideable.
