OFCOURSE YOU NEED THEM IN SKATEBOARDING. THEY SOSTAIN THE WEELS. THEYRE THE LITTLE RINGS THAT GO BETWEEN THE WHEELS. HAVE YOU BEEN LIVING UNDER A ROCK? and in case you didn't know, you cant skate without them... your weels would be rolling off of your trucks. and in case you didn't know what those are either, trucks are the t-shaped piece of metal that connect the wheels to your trucks. yes the brand of the bearings is important and so is the truck brand. and the skateboard brand and the wheel brand and the skateboarding shoe brand. if you need to know about those thing, ask under this section or contact me

In mechanics- They are the part of a machine which bear the friction; the block or supports on which a shaft or axle turns. Ball bearings are individual balls for a bearing assembly.
In Carpentry a bearing is the length of a beam between two supports.
In Navigation a bearing is the direction in which any point lies from a point of reference, so the direction in which you want to go.

any time you have a rotating shaft doing work you will have a bearing i.e. ceiling fans, wheels, motors, etc. they keep the shaft turning freely and lined up. the bearings have grease in them to compensate for the heat. when bearings rust shafts stop spinning or start making horrible noises.

They are designed to make the rotation of bodies (shafts, wheels, etc) as free and frictionless as possible.
Bearings can be sperical, cylindrical, or simply high-pressure air or gas depending on the application.

they make your wheels spin and they dont really have to do anything with turning. turning mainly depends on your bushings and trucks
