I am in my junior year standing majoring in Business Adminstartion Marketing concentration will get a BS degree by 2008 spring. I wanted to know if marketing is a good major? Type of jobs I want to avoid is Sales and telemarketing. I want to do more research, product development, mangagment, promotion, e.t.c just don't want sales. I am going to be looking for a entry level position after I graduate. Hopefully next summer I am going to look for internships.
I have an option of Managment, Marketing, E-business to major in.
Thanks

OK, I'm assuming you're in the USA. There aren't as many job positions available for marketing majors as there are for accounting and finance majors. Many employers will want someone with experience when trying to fill a position doing research, product development, etc. If marketing is really what you like, don't get discouraged. You might try a double major of management/marketing or major in mgmt and minor in mkt. Then look for a job with a company where you can get an entry level position doing 'business analyst' type work where you might have the ability to move into a marketing position within that company later on. Good luck.

I pretty much agree with the above poster. marketing jobs are harder to get and a large percentage (more than half) will end up in sales positions or without jobs or with jobs that have nothing to do with marketing. To get good marketing jobs like what you want people usually have to start at the bottom of a company or get promoted within. If I were you I would get a minor in marketing and a major in something that can get your foot in the door like finance or accounting. Or else you might be living at home with your parents after graduation
