Basically, it's either ignition or fuel delivery. If there are no error codes, then it's going to be extremely difficult. Process of elimination will be the only way, but will get expensive and exasperating. My crystal ball tells me that it's an ignition problem as a fuel pressure problem should throw an error code. All you can do is try subbing parts until the problem goes away. I would start with the ECU and work out from there. Otherwise, it will have to go to the shop for extensive evaluation. Since it's a Mercedes, money should be no object for you.

I don't know of any forums for Mercs, but try looking for one and get some experienced mechanics to give you advice. You're not likely to find any here.

Wow that car has a tone of electrical sensors and control units that should tell you whats wrong. The shop you take it to, are they using a test tool to read the codes? Is it a tester for OBD2 or is it just for Mercedes? Sounds to me like the car losses its signal from the motor so shuts down until it gets it back. This could be a cam sensor, a crank sensor, a fault in the control unit. Call a couple of MB shops in your area and ask them how they would test for this. Look for one that has a tool designed for MB. Some shops were I live use the MB tool itself and usually it will pull out a trouble code.

Pull the distributor cap and see if there's a chip in the top of it, I had the same thing happen with a Chevy, the chip tested as good WHEN IT WAS COLD, but it would break the connection when the motor warmed up. soon as it cooled down, it'd fire right back up, sounds like the same problem you have

Check the map sensor. I just had to replace it in my Dodge and it was acting the same way.
