what part of the US? Somewhere like NYC or San Francisco you're going to spend about 7000 to 8000 to live poorly where as somewhere in kentucky you will only spend about 1500 a month to live pretty good. In other words you need more meat to your question to get a real answer

so i guess you can get by with $900 or so, but i managed to travel from Oregon to NC in 2 weeks spending just $350 total. this includes gas, lodging, food, etc.

of course the rent could be more or less.
