They say what people want to hear, get elected and then they all agree on who had the last laugh. It's a pretty sick system. The bigger question would be why do people believe them?

Now, don't you think this question is a bit beneath you? How do you know they are not sincere in their religious beliefs? And, even if they aren't, how is this any different than some wealthy Northeastern Democrat "act"[ing] like they really give a damn about the poor or minorities? Have you ever been in the backroom of a strategy meeting where they talk about how much they can't stand them and how they patronize them for votes?

It's not just politicians that are phony. It's some people that sit in a Church & act so pious & religious & they come out the door & turn into a different sort of person with their values, Lie's, swearing, drinking & screwing their fellow man for the big bucks !
BUT they figure if they sit in Church once a week they are "good people". They are only fooling themselves, God knows & they will have to answer to HIM in the end.

Liars whether they are politicians or others can be religious. Why so many confessions the priests has to hear, if people have not lied? Man is a circumstantial animal.

well politics and religion have some common grounds. both have a way of keeping the mind of poeple ( particularly the poor masses) in suspense in anticipation of "good" things to come. It is certainly logical ( in the minds of politicians) to give 'hope' to the poor than to state the reality of the oppressive nature of current political practice. Similarly both politics and religion have very strong emotional aspects that the mases can readily identify with. Religion and political leaders only need to appeal to the raw emotion of the poor to get what ever they want them to do. They find it easy totell lies as a way of appealling to the raw emotion of the poeple. Truth is not in the dictionary of politicians.

The Religious Right are neither!
Shame on all the suckers who vote for 'religious' politicians who have no real morals. They get the government they deserve.

Unfortunately, some of them really do start off in politics with GOOD INTENTIONS;;;;BUT, AND THERE'S ALWAYS A BUT, once they get into the "dealings" of political-life, they realize how corrupt an ORGANIZATION it is. It's just another form OF MAFIA TYPE ACTIVITY. sad, but true

Politics is always dirty.
Not all religious people are liars.
Please don't despise religions. There is much wisdom in the Bible, Buddhist scriptures, etc.

P/S There are hypocrites everywhere, not only in the church.
