Anything an evolutionist wants it to be, so they always have an answer when the facts disprove their theory.

Evolution means the change over time of living organisms due to genetic changes. Most of the time, cells replicate so that the daughter cells are identical to the parent, but sometimes they are not: chromosomes didn't separate properly, or recombined improperly, or were affected by radiation. Usually, but not always, such a mutation works against survival, but occasionally it improves the chances of survival because it is advantageous to the organism in some way. Since mankind started using agriculture, the selection of useful traits has been guided by human desires as well as simple survival in the wild, and virtually every commercially important plant or animal is very different from the original wild type -- so different, in some cases, that they are not cross-fertile: the variant is a new species.
So, we see that evolution requires exactly two elements to work:
- A possibility of genetic variation.
- A selection scheme such that "favorable" variations are more likely to survive to reproduce.

Evolution is now established science, which means that workers in the field use the theory of evolution to make predictions that they consider useful (i.e., correct).

Some people, such as one responder to your question, do not believe in evolution, usually for religious reasons. They choose to remain ignorant rather than come to understand that evolution works, and has, over the past several billion years, given rise, starting from a primordial life form, to the millions of species now found on earth, and millions more now extinct.

The Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection was a theory or an idea set out by Charles Robert Darwin after his expedition to the Galapagos Islands aboard the HMS Beagle.

He proposed that organisms "evolve" through time. This means that organisms' structure change after long periods of time. "Natural Selection" meant "Survival of the Fittest". So, in evolution, only those traits that are essential are the ones usually passed on.

The Theory of Evolution has 4 Major Points:
1. Organisms produce more offspring that can survive. (The more offspring, the greater chance of Survival.
2. Competition. (Only the winners are able to reproduce)
3. Organisms adapt to their environment.
4. Offsprings look like their parents. (They receive some traits)

Change over time. In a chemistry context, it also means to generate. Example, "a gas is evolved" means that a chemical reaction occurred in which one of the products of the reaction was a gas, shown by bubbles in the reaction mixture.
