The UN is an organization made up of ALL countries who participate including America. Without participation there is no UN. It only works when all the member countries can agree on an issue. The UN members are supposed to work for the greater good of the world. However, the trend is for individual countries to look after their own interests and to heck with everyone else.....sooooo....the UN cannot be effective. It is only as effective or DEFECTIVE as the members who belong. When you slam the UN you slam yourself and the other member countries. To say the UN cannot work means that countries cannot get along for the good of the whole! Selfishness is winning over selflessness and the greater good of the world as a whole entitiy. Shame on somebody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One hears a lot more about the UN's failures than it's successes, so it's important to have some perspective. For example the UN has kept the peace in Cyprus for 40 years now, but you'll never see a headline about that.

If you mean that the UN cannot function due to the veto used by US to serve its interest, I agree. The UN should move back to Switzerland and not be controlled by the US. It is a shame.
