When I hear about a terrorist attack on the news, they also add to their report that a particular group has claimed responsibility for the attack. How do they verify that it came from this group? Do they have caller ID or do they trace the call?

The terrorist group that is claiming the attack doesn't call the news station and say "Hello...This is Akmahd Al-Sadr. We did it! Ha-hahaha". No.

They claim the attacks through websites and video tapes sent to Al-Jazeera, etc.

There are many ways to build a bomb. A bomb-builder tends to make each bomb the same way -- It's like a fingerprint. That way they know who made it, or who the maker probably learned from.
