No it should not. The purpose it serves is to allow ALL states to have a fairly equal say in an election. Without it large states with large populations would rule all presidential elections (i.e., California, New York, Florida, Texas, Pennsylvania, et al).
This is evidenced by the last few elections.
The founding fathers set up the electoral college for this exact reason. I don't remember if this was part of the "Great Compromise" of the Constitutional Convention but I'm sure small states were very much in favor of it. The U.S. Constitution would have never been approved if the small states had been left out of the decision making process (i.e., the Senate, the Electoral College, etc).
Without the Electoral College a party would only have to focus on the large population states and completely neglect the will of the small population states. Eventually the government would completely neglect the needs, desires and the will of the people from these states since they would only have to please the people from the large cities / states. It would be massively lopsided.
Your question is obviously biased as well since you included a false statement about the "majority of the people". The number of die hard republicans equals the number of die-hard democrats. It's the middle folks, the independents, that have to be courted every election year. and there are an equal number of those in large population states as in small population states.
No, the Electoral College should not be dissolved.
You obviously won't select this answer as best answer because it doesn't fit your agenda.

While you are at it why don't we get rid of congress all together and have people vote on all the bills.
Then I can move to another country while the US goes down the crapper. Then if it starts to get fixed in my life time i can move back and live like a king under the new government after that crap fails.
I think we should go back to the Electoral College electing the president and do away with the popular vote. You already voted for the Electoral College let them do their job. I guarantee we would get better presidents.
Also for those retards that don't know the United States in not a democracy. It never has been. If it ever became one it would crumble in a few years. It is a republic. The closer you get to a democracy the worse thing will get. That is the whole point of having a republic people get a say and are represented but they are not let to ruin crap.
Though with the news and instant feed back on most major votes we are getting closer to a democracy. Since the politicians have to vote with the poles for their district or they will not get re-elected, and that is what is messing everything up.
That is why the dollar is getting killed. That is why every American car company is in the red. That is why we import more then we export. That is why jobs are going to other countries. Because they have to please people who have no understanding of economics. Americans got used to insane high pay while the world recovered from WWII this allowed the infrastructure to grow. We also have lots of recourses. So we got used to people making crazy wages. Now the general unskilled American worker is no longer happy to work for a fair wage. The politicians support the unions who will not let them be replaced with robots. This means companies have to move the factories to other countries to make a profit. This means instead of your money going back into the American economy it goes to another country.
Also the reason the masses love a lot of democrats is they say the government should do more and not raise taxes. Anyone who can balance a check book knows that is just dumb. Since most voters cannot balance a check book we get bad decisions made.
The average American has more credit card debt then they have put away for retirement. Yet some how they think with those reasoning skills they know what is best for the country. This is why the more power they get and the less the politicians have the worse things get.

via removing the electoral college you may provide a huge volume of ability to basically some properly populated states. States like California, long island, Texas and Florida could make certain the election. at present we use the electoral college so each and each state has a say on the way forward for the USA.

Yes. It is an antiquated system that does not really defend the will of the people. The only thing it does that is good, is force the candidates to go to the less populated states to stump for votes... Those states could for coalitions to get that without having to skewer what the general population wants. IMHO

Yes, just count all the votes and at the end of the day we will know who won fair and square. Why is that a bad thing? I'm sure both sides will still figure out new and improved ways to cheat but hell we can take one of the easier ways of being dishonest away from them.

Umm, check your facts McFly. Bush won by a majority of the popular vote in 2004, and no other U.S. President in history had as many popular votes as he did that year.
Your argument is weak and unfounded. NEXT!

Sounds like a good idea to me, because "we the people" would get to elect the President.

yes, it's antiquated. If we were to have a democracy, every vote would count. The voting system is in desperate need of correction and revision - we saw that clearly in 2000.

Probably. But since Republicans are currently in power, don't expect it to happen anytime soon.
