I have to say that unfortunately I'm part of that 98%. Why? Good question. Partly because I've always been an aggresive driver, and have a major lead foot, more than that it's because there are so many out there who go below the speed limit that I get what they term road rage and speed on by. But, I"m learning patience on the road with the help of new hubby who doesn't go over the speed limit, not even by a smitgen. Used to drive me nuts to have him drive. Now I see that not only have I learned some patience on the road, it's saved me lots of money in gas to not speed along.

I always do 5 to 7 miles over the speed limit because I know I won't get busted for it. (I have a few friends that are troopers.) The reason for that is "time". On long trips, the faster I can go, the quicker I get from point A to point B. The rest of the time I pretty much stick to the speed limit, and if it's a particularly nice day I'll go a bit slower than the speed limit unless someone is behind me.

Yes, I am, but not intentionally. I drive for a living (courier) and I need to make the most of my time, I have excellent reflexes and feel the speed limits posted in many areas unnecessarily slow. However, there are also areas, especially around curves, where the limit is too fast and that's where the majority of accidents occur. It's not the speed at which you travel but the amount of concentration you apply to your driving.

Yes, and I am sure it is more like 100%. It is not like I drive 100mph every where I go, but come on.. I drive ti Philly from Scranton two to three times a month. After Allentown on the the way home and before on the way down, there is very little traffic and long straighaways.. It is insnane to expect people to drive 65mph in these situations.. Now, when traffic picks up or I am near on ramps and such I practice safe driving. I think a worse violation are the folks who drive 55 in the passing lane and refuse to move for any reason.. These people drive me nuts.. I do not speed on local and town roads. I practice defensive driving and obey all trafic signs and lights.. But somtimes a guy just has to speed a little. DO YOU!!??

Honestly, yes. It seems that there is an unwritten rule on my local highways that going up to ten miles over the speed limit is not a violation. You would get blown off the road if you just did the limit, and the police do not strictly enforce it. I know some state troopers personally, and they have confirmed this.
Your question may make me re-think my habits.
I live in the northeast US.

I honestly drive better when going 5-10 miles over the speed limit, I seem to have more control of my car........but, if I am in a residential neighborhood or near a school I obey the speed limits.

I live in Germany so it's a little different. I go the speed limit in city limits because there is a danger with people around. But when I'm on the auto-bahn (there is a recomended speed) I go as fast as I please, usually around 160 km/h or 100 mph. Driving fast is a rush, it's fun. That's why I do it and I usually only do it when I'm by myself.

Most people do. The reason is because most of these speed limits are purposely put way below the safety limit.

yup, guilty as charged. The speed limit was set when cars took ten times longer to stop. Why should those old laws still be in effect. Don't we change everything else because of advancement?

I try to drive very close to the speed limit... without getting OVER-RUN or RUN-OVER.
I hang in the slow lane... almost always change lanes to let people in... and I'm very safe and courteous.
My one BAD habit is when I notice... some is tailgating me...
I go slower and slower and slower... until the distance between us is appropriate for that slow speed. Usually they will go around me... But I'll be damned if I'm going to have someone attempt to drive HIS CAR and MY CAR too.
