Ended two friendships - both in excess of 23 years. Both because the friendship proved to be less than I had previously thought it to be. One friend couldn't be bothered to visit me but was willing for me to make the trips to visit her; the other couldn't find herself interested in my life but expected me to be interested in hers.

It was after 17 years. Long, long story so I'll cut to the chase. The straw that broke the camel's back was when she didn't come to see my first child for six weeks after he was born. No phone call, no nothing. She used the excuse that her uncle was ill. Hellloooo?? Even if my mother had died I would have made an effort with her when she had her first child - and she did have a child so she knew exactly how I was feeling during those first few weeks. There was probably an element of jealousy because I was happily married and she was very unhappily divorced but even so ... no excuse .. with friends like her I had no need for enemies ...

I moved about 90 miles away (1-1/2 hours) and broke up with my girlfriend. Neither of us wanted to continue the 'long-distance' relationship.

A (former) good friend of mine (for about 20 years!) immediately started dating her - like the next day... He never said anything to me. Actually he purposefully hid the relationship from me.

When I found out I was mad. It wasn't about the girl, we were done. I was mad because my friend thought he needed to hide it from me. If he had just said something to me at the time, we would still be friends. I found out from a third party, mutual friend.

Where I'm from, we (guys) have an unwritten code about such things. He's lucky he still has all his teeth. If he wanted my seconds, all he had to do was ask. 20 years of friendship down the tube...

Not 20+
I quit a friend of 14 yrs
When I got into my 1st serious affair, she started getting jealous.
So much so, for 1 whole yr, her ranting turned all my female friends against me.
What is worse, I was guilty to the extent of depression
Then I decided I was over with her.

I was best friends with a guy since the age of 12, (we're now 34) He decided last xmas that he had better friends than me,,and I havent heard from him since. I still dont know why.
The way I see it now is,, he was never a friend in the 1st place.
'No man is an island' they say ,, thats just garbage, you come in to this world alone and you leave this world alone.

I had a friend only about 15 years but i am only 23 in old peoples terms(like yourself) only joking. But a very good friend because of his lack of loyalty when it came to the crunch. He was my best friend when i was lending him money, even hooked him up with his girlfriend. But when i fell out with my ex misses i called him to say how pissed off i was told him i wanted to meet up(could n't stay in the house with her) and he blank my calls, a few weeks later he told me it was because i was i a bad mood and he did n't want to be dealing with it. I almost hit him, never spoke since!
