hmmmmmmm... tough question. It is really very difficult to understand God, because God is defined, described and of course devalued by many people, scriptures and so called priests. We certainly come to know about Him through these sources. It is really confusing. Isn't it? Let me ask you a simple question: How do you understand feelings like Love, Hungry or so on? Only through experiencing the same feelings. Am I right or not? God can be experienced, felt, tasted and seen by individuals who really want to realize Him. So, My humble request is dont try to understand God, b'coz those understandings were influenced (in a bad way) by many other things. Just feel His presence whenever you see the smile on the face of the really needy people when their need is fulfilled.
Am I right friend??

Understanding implies to put something within the framework of thought. But thought is limited in its functioning. It cannot capture anything. You can create definitions, meanings even opinions. But to say that thought thought has captured something is not true. The map can never be the city. When we are hungry we have to eat food, not understand what is food, or read a menu card.
If you take a closer look, althought the thought is different from the object, the presence of though dictates the experience of the object. Hence any definition or understanding you hold on to, would infact construct or create the experience you have. Like a self fulfilling prophecy. The knowledge of an object is the only way for us to experience it.
Take an even close look and you will find that the concept and image of the self is also created through the same mechanism of thought.

i don't believe in God. the only difference between us and other forms of creature is that we have free will... and that why we are on top of the foodchain. we are animals. with a higher brain capacity. i believe in the evolution theory coz it has much more basis than the divine theory (god created the world) and bibles... who knows if what's written on them were made by a fat psycho long long ago? we live and we die.. nothing more than that. mission in life is to make the best of it while we are still alive and contribute something to humanity. religion, for me, makes everything worse... i mean.. if religion is so good.. then why did it start sooo many wars?
everything has a reason... why we sneeze, why we die, and how we came to life.. science explained all these. miracles.... people who are very ill suddenly recover... medicines...
god could just be an imagination. and i don't want to waste my life worshipping someone whom i don't even believe in.
that's just my opinion. im not anti-christ or something. i just don't believe in that stuff.

Humans always pride themselves to be a higher species because of their ability to think and make decisions. In my opinion, the ability to think is starting to get in the way of our lives. Because people think, and everyone think differently, quarrels and fights are started. Because people think, their school essays get discredited; students are not supposed to think, they are supposed to 'think' like people of the past who had written some books or some form of evidence and include those in the essays. Because people think, those who don't think have to conform to the ideas of the former. Because people think, they cannot come to a decision about some things and it will always be there, never-ending, never gonna be solved. Because people think. Too much in fact. Wouldn't it be good if everyone just do things without thinking too much? Go for it. On impulse. On instinct. Would that make things better? Look what has all the thinking done to us. Yes, we have the technology, the entertainment and everything else which people of the past did not have but we no longer have the simplicity in people. I'm not saying that people in the past did not think but they were smarter. They don't think so much. What's the point of thinking so much and still no conclusion and decision could be made? Doesn't that make you feel worse?
Bottomline: we think too much. Don't k. To whoever this is applicable to.

To understand God you need to look within yourself. Ask yourself - what is God? how has His will affected my life? Do I believe that He giudes my life?
There are many other questions that can be asked, but you should seek them for yourself.
People find God by different means - some find God by expressing themselves through the arts. God is Creation and it is in Creation that we should seek to understand Him.
There is also the Bible. The Good book can help you understand what does God mean for you.
I hope this was helpfull,
Steven
Peace and love.

You understand God by receiving his Holy Spirit, with the bible evidence of speaking in tongues. Scripture clearly shows that this is the way to understanding of God's word. I found it hard to believe myself 2 years ago, but I have had this experience, and life just makes so much sense now.

i think if Christians thoughts that the Jesus is only god and if Muslim's thoughts that the Allah is god then that is their way of thinking to understand god i mean i believe in god and there is no religion which is made by god only the human beings is there for that types of religion if you understand god then you see only once towards your mothers she is the creator she love you a lot i think in whole the world she is only the person who believe in you so according to myself if you want to understand god then only mother is the option to understand god that's it

Try explaining to an ant how electricity works.
Try explaining to a dog the theoretical mechanical design for car engines.
Some things are beyond the comprehension of the human psyche.

We all want to (except atheists), but we cannot we are only human. Our minds do not have the capacity to every truly understand an infinite god except perhaps after death and maybe not even then.

God is a utensil to allow meaning to our lives as it is so vast and we require it as an idea to "prolong our existential angst" as my old teacher would say.
To prolong our existential angst means to prolong that feeling that there is nothing after our death so therefore to prolong that empty feeling that our lives are leading to only one end and we are not greater than the beast of the wild or the bugs that eat our flesh after death.
