Most all ISPs assign dynamic IP addresses because they can be assigned to someone else when you're not using it.
of course, you have the option for paying for all the idle time and buying the very expensive static IP Address.
However, one thing that you must know is that a static IP address is easier to hack into than the dynamic.
Your FTP Client is usually very secure.
But then, in this day of advanced hacking, I might already be out of date when I'm saying this.
For greater anonymity, if that's what you're interested in, you could use a proxy server.
Personally, I don't think that's necessary.
Cheers.

You need to keep your DHCP address from your ISP. I wrote a shell script program that basically pings my network address every hour.
#!/bin/sh
ping [network address]
I added it as a cron job every hour and the broadcast from the network address will renew me.
What it will do is keep your MAC address and IP in the ISP's routing table so that it doesn't expire.
I have had the same IP through DHCP for over a year

If you have Windows XP Professional on both PC you may be able to connect through remote desktop . If you don't then try a software for connect through Internet like "go to my PC" or "weboffice" . You have a free trial for them so you can choose .
Check the sites and see which is good for you .
Good luck !

There are utilities out there that can monitor your IP address, then notify you of any changes.
You have a lot of options, but I use "Keep Me Posted" and have changes emailed to a free online account. It checks every 15 minutes (these are all settings you can adjust).
