Hi Manc girl. Tell me if im on the wrong lines but you sure this isnt pest trap? and not pest control you were referring to?
Pest trap is a anti spyware or a security software application that use various forms of deception or unethical means or show a history of negligent false positives to goad the end user to make a purchase.
In some cases these applications maybe downloaded with some form of unwanted software at which point the rogue application is offered to the customer as a way to remove the unwanted software.
This is a Rogue Anti-spyware application that is installed through the ITS Protocol Exploit in IE that was discovered early 2005. There are also confirmed reports of this program installing itself using the CHM Exploit. Users should avoid "Main.chm".
Now the reason i suspect you are talking about pest trap is that you do recieve a alert in your system tray - located in the bottom right of the screen. The actual alert message comes from the infection itself however this could be another sort of rouge spyware apart from pest trap.
I have been on the internet for a while now, and i have always used Mcafee internet security.
The best thing to do is format your hard drive and start again.
Mcafee internet security suite 2006 is around £40.00 here in the Uk...........ok some might say its alot of money to spend, but endless amounts of rouge spyware, Trojans and other sorts of malicious software will be kept to a minimum.
Good Luck Hunny, and happy surfing!

Sounds like a "spyware" program calling home.
1) Check for spyware. Run both Ad-aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/) and Skybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/) to remove any spyware. Run both as one may caught something the other missing. Then go to microsoft.com and download Defender to protect against future infections.
2) Run the msconfig utility. Go to Start, then Run and type in: msconfig
Go to the startup tab
You will see a list of all the programs that are loaded when your computer starts up. Uncheck any that you do not have to have. (Usually you can uncheck them all). If you decide you to need one, you can go back and recheck it.

dont for any reason click on it... there are some steps you can take for this to go away but dont click on it for any reason...
1st step. Go to start and click set programs access and defaults.
find anything that resambles that red circle name and delete it.
2nd step is to go to my computer click on he local disk (c:) and open the folder program files and look for a folder that contains that red circle sorfware and delete it.
3rd step, if the above doesnt work back up all your data and reinstall windows. this is the last step and the most extream but also its the safes incase you have a virus so you wont lose all your important stuff.

Use spybot or Ewido
http://filehippo.com/software/antispyware/
Both are free and reliable. Avoid hitman pro.
You could also use Program checker which will give you some idea of the rogue processes running on your system. It's freeware.
http://www.programchecker.com/
just use it with a little caution!

On my P.C that usually means a Windows security alert. Have you had an update recently. Check your bug scanner for any infections.

Recommendations:
-Download hitmanpro, www.hitmanpro.nl.
-Start/run/msconfig/start up: see if unknown programs are started at setup. If so, google them up.
Also:
