They are called splinter haemorrhages. Can be caused by a vitamin c deficiency or endocarditis. If you suspect endocarditis I would see your doctor.

Subacute bacterial endocarditis - causes splinter-link markings under the nails, or
Trichinosis - causes splinter-link markings under the nails.
I would go and see a dermatologist!

Nothing to worry about... all gays get that! Hell, i don't know... but it's odd if it's only under a single thumbnail and no other finger. You don't say if it's always or only sometimes there, on both or only the one thumbnail or if you work on cars or something where they get dirty and maybe it's not 'under' but 'within' ridges that are hard to clean.
As you describe them, they are NOT typical of any symptom connected with a cardiovascular problem, but you could see a doctor... if only to relieve yourself of concern regarding any other horrible affliction people might suggest to you.

Can be bacterial endocarditis but can be caused by trauma especially if under only one nail.
Consider you job , recent activities etc.
Dont worry but get a professional to check if you are concerned

Fingernail deformities (clubbing) and markings are often signs of cardiac problems. Go see a doctor.

I used to get those when I was younger, they have gone now, and i'm ok, so unless you have tons of them I wouldn't worry.
