Why are we compelled to yawn when we see someone else yawn? What is it that makes us yawn?

we yawn because we have not taken in enough oxygen because we are too tired to notice

It's a mental thing. You see someone yawn, and your brain tells you that you are tired so you yawn too... or something like that.
