I put money into my bank to pay my credit card. This was cash...and it takes Nat West 5 days to put it through my account. If i put money in my savings account it is there straight away. What happens to the money when it's in no mans land waiting to be processed.. and the interest????

I would ask them for a full explanation in writing. Write to them and ask for this. Ask them for a breakdown of any charges incurred and what reasoning. Check your receipt and make sure the cashier did not make a mistake. If you do not receive a satisfactory answer then write to the bank advising them that you would like to make a formal complaint. They will then acknowledge the receipt of this and advise you of your rights. They then have a set time to deal with your grievance

Usually when I lodge a payment with my Halifax account it takes 6 days to appear, unless I lodge cash over the counter. Its ridiculous, I think the bank earns interest on it while it "clears". It's gotten to the point where I just don't trust any bank and I've been with a few, but in our society, without a bank account we can't buy a house, or a car, and we can't get a decent job. I would really like to disappear off the "grid" but I would probably wind up living rough on the street.

My Bank does real time Banking, so when I pay in, it shows immediately. If I pay cash onto my credit card before 4 o'clock, it goes on the same day. And if I pay a cheque into my bank account, it clears immediately so I get interest straight away. My account pays 4% interest. I am with LloydsTSB.

I would certainly check this with your bank. I yesterday paid £500.00 cash into my account, she swiped my card and 5 minutes later it was on my account available to draw from the cashpoint. If you have incurred bank charges because your payment was late to your credit card, I would demand a refund of those charges. There is no excuse for the bank to take 5 days to credit cash.
