Blazing Saddles is not a racist movie - Mel Brooks pokes fun at preconceived ideas & notions with amazing accuracy & clarity. He himself is Jewish & has never run from or hidden that fact; he has been known to mock the stereotypical ideas or images of Jewish people. In Blazing Saddles, he took on race by having the lead character become sherrif - something you didn't see in any of the Westerns - a black sherrif. He later made referrence to it in Robin Hood, Men in Tights, as well. I would venture to say there's not a racist bone in Mel Brooks' body. It's sad to see that he's getting on in years - when he's gone the world will be a sadder place because he won't be in it.

Not. Notice how the characters that are racist are portrayed as mindless dullards, and those who the racism is directed towards are intelligent and are the heroes of the movie. I think this movie makes shameless fun of racists, and that's one of the reasons I like it so much.

I don't think so unless it's racist against whites. The whites in the movie are made to look like idiots, and the black sheriff is the brains. Anyway, I think it's hilarious probably Mel Brooks best work.

"The blacks and Mexicans can stay, but NO IRISH!"

No. Of course not!
Mel Brooks makes fun of "black" people, of Jews, Germans,
Indians and white fellows who try to settle down in the West.
What a question. I think U have to see the movie first
and than ask questions ... My favorite scene is
that Indian-Chief
(Mel Brooks himself) talking Yiddish ...
I couldn't stop laughing !!!

Ask Richard Pryor and Mel Brooks, are they racists? People try to find racism in the strangest places...kinda like those crazy mexicans seeing Jesus on their quesadilas....THAT was racist.
