in the beginning the embryo is neither male or female. Nipples grow before the sex is defined, so they grow anyway...

Biologically speaking, the female is the basic sex. Males are just modified females. We all develop along the female pathway for much of the first trimester and if no Y chromosome is present, then the fetus will continue to develop as a girl. However, if a Y chromosome *is* present, then the hormone testosterone will be produced and alter the developmental pathway. Ovaries become testes. The labia fuse to form a scrotum. The penis is just an enlarged clitoris threaded by a urethra.

So basically Genesis has it backwards. Adam came out of Eve's rib! :)

This is the second time in two weeks this question has been posed.

The answer is that men are women with Y chromosomes. Men are XY and women are XX. We practice two-gender sex and nature used the female as the model and derived men from it. Thus, we have nipples (which can weep by the way) just as women have nipples.

Simple enough -- even though it turns Genesis on its head.

They are vestigial, much like the appendix is. It could possibly indicate that the male of the species was derived originally from the female of the species, thus retaining the characteristic nipple. I know that most men could not stand to think that they were originally derived from women, but that's just the way it is.

It's because when you are forming in the womb the cells have yet to determine what sex you are going to be, so you form the nipple, then when the X's and Y's sort themselves out and decide you are going to be male......too late you have them already.

Did you ever notice those spaces in your car dashboard where some special equipment can be installed, like a tachometer or something? If its not installed, there is a still a designated space there, with a plastic button.

Same thing.

The installation never took place.
