The valve stem seals have gone and need to be replaced, which means removal of the head. But if you take the head off,you may as well lap the valves in and check their condition. You say black oil from the exaust,-if it is bellowing blue smoke it could be piston rings,-black smoke is a sign off running too rich on fuel. How often do you change your oil??-if your oil gets realy old,it looses its viscosity(becomes realy runny like water)and when it gets that thin it can pass the rings and the valve stems in an older motor.you could try changing the oil and the oil filter first. This will improve the compression and stop a lot of oil bypass.then you will get a better idea of what the repair is going to be.You can also use an additive such as bardol number 2--or stop smoke. This could get you mobile again and buy you time to budget for the cost of the repair, but look at the alternatives--an xf falcon here in west australia, can be picked up second hand for around250 to 1000 -an unlicensed one with a good motor you can probably get for free, then its simply a case of buying the grog and inviting a couple of handy mecanical mates around to do the job of switching motors.--best of luck.

Better get that car to a mechanici fast. That is never a good thing when oil is coming out the exhaust. Have then to really go over your engine. Maybe pistons or your rings are shot..

1 of 2 causes both expensive repairs
1 bad valves- remove heads and do valve job appx $500-600 if done at shop
2 bad rings- remove engine and rebuild or buy another u can get a rebuilt engine for about 1800-2500 depending on engine size (cid)
