According to historians and archaeologists , The Great Wall of China started to be built in 403 to 221 BC and ended in 1368-1620 with the last of four extensions to it.
However, Chinese archaeologists announced at a recent academic conference in Henan Province in 2002 that the first part of the construction in the central portion of the country started around 688 B.C.

I don't know...but I know it was built to keep the rabbits out....too many rabbits in China.
