A good guy friend and I recently went to a fireworks display and someone asked him if I was his girlfriend and he said "yea sort of"-except hes not. I hang out with him alot and we have fun, but I sort of have a guy on the side that I really don't want anyone to know. How do I get the message across that he isn't my BF without killing our friendship?

Well, he is a boy... and he is a friend...so he is kinda sorta... he could have just been thinking like that. I had a friendship like that and I just let it slide. If helps his self-esteem to think that he *might* have a chance with you, why destroy that. He most likely knows exactly where he stands with you. Unless you are really serious with someone else don't worry about it. As it is you will lose most if not all of you male friends when you get serious with someone or married, I know.

The first thing I'd like to ask you, when he said 'yeah sort of' and referred to you as his girlfirend, why didn't you correct him immediately? Were you afraid to get him embarassed?

Second thing, why do you think did he say that you are his girl? Was there any chance that he thought you were on a date with him everytime you thought that you were just hanging out with him?

Third, what do you really feel for him? Is it really just friendship?

You know all relations undergo misunderstanding, from the intimate ones and to the just plain friends. This could just be one of those cases. It's better to lay out the cards in the open. You know him better than I do, so more or less you will know the right words to say without hurting him.

Just tell him that you really enjoy his friendship and its great that you two can do a lot of fun things together without all the pressures that boyfriend/girlfriend relationships often have. Obvioulsy put it into your own words but be honest

Has he made any move on you? If not then you have nothing to worry about. If he makes a move or says something to indicate that he has feelings for you then maybe you need to have a talk with him. Maybe he said it as a joke. If I were you I wouldn't fret it unless if he clearly made it obvious to you that he likes you more than a friend.

don't worry, just introduce your bf to him sometime. you just took his comments way to seriously. he was just happy to be with you that night and made it like the two of you were a couple (be thankfull that way). his sayin.."yea sort of"... means you have nothing to worry about.

sheeeeshh!
