yes, 16 top teams, 4 weeks have all games use existing Bowl names, final game could still be rotated among the bib four Bowls, early round games would use the lesser bowl games. So u keep the bowls, get a true champion, and all the bowl games would actually mean something

There are very strong arguments for why it would be a bad idea and strong arguments for why it would be a good idea, so I'm going to split these two schools of thought down the middle and say that a 16 team playoff will be best if they were to use bowl game sites to play the games and take turns hosting the National Championship game at the "big 5" sites (Fiesta, Rose, Orange, Cotton, and Sugar). Include the smaller conferences' champions as long as they're ranked in the final 16 or have no more than 3 losses as the larger conferences participants will surely have no more than that. Make New Year's Day the big day for the "big 5" games and hype them like crazy! The bowl relationship will still be solid and the playoff will still be successful. They could even use the current BCS system to seed everone during the season and playoff. #1 would play #16, #2 would play #15 and so on. The top 8 teams in the playoffs would have home field advantage as long as they continued to win or until two top 8 teams would be forced to meet, giving the home field to the higher ranked team.

Definitely, I do not pay attention nor watch the silly sport due to the lack of a playoff system. If they really thought about it, March Madness draws in 100's of millions of dollars, what would the same thing do in December to Football? Maybe Central Florida goes on a tear like the Steelers did, bashes everyone else and takes out LSU, or Texas, or USC. As long as you have a paper champion, it will be a second rate sport. Keep your bowl games, they are the playoff sites and forums. keep it neutral, except for conference winners, they would get homefield advantage, which especially in the north, winter time, and by all means Miami, and Florida State, come visit Wisconsin or Michigan at home in the snow. That would be something to see. It will never happen so long as sports writers decide who the champion is, and their is money to be had. Paper champion.......

Yes, there should be a 16-team playoff, with the first round being played at the higher-seeded team's home site. Make strength of schedule a major determining factor in who gets in, so that we can stop having the Georgia vs. Central Upper Nebraska Tech matchups in September.
Let some of the Southern teams have to come to Madison or State College in early December.

yes - but it comes down to how the Universities get paid & the extension of the season - you potentially have a potential champion playing 15 games or 16 - 17 weeks. I'd like to see the nomal bowl schedule excluding the BCS Top 5 which would be in a single elimination tournament. 1 gets a bye, 2 plays 5, 3 plays 4, 1 plays lowest seed remaining in week 2, & the winners of week 2 play for the National championship.

After the regular season is complete along with the conference championship games and the final rankings complete, the top 4 teams should play with #1 playing #4 and #2 playing #3 with the winners meeting for the National Championship. No controversy, no long tournament, only the best competing for the Championship!

Should they or Will they are completely differently questions. Its pretty obvious that college football has a flawed playoff system with undefeated teams not participating in the National championship.

I kind of agree with Jeff52168 but I think there should be 2 different playoffs like in NCAA basketball. The BCS bowls should have a playoff for the BCS national championship and the other bowls could have their own playoff for a championship like the NIT in basketball.

Undoubtedly, they should. The entire bowl system is all about making money. And they are adding yet another bowl game this year! Personally, I really don't care who wins the 'Penzoil Liberty Bowl' between Mississippi Valley State and Central Florida. The focus isn't where it should be, which is finding the true champion.

At some stage, there should be a lot. In cricket, it is toss in the beginning; in foot ball, play off and kick. Games are a matter of skill and luck at the end.
