Diamonds suffer from hyperdemand - the value of them is so high that it goes off the scale. You can compare them to water and find water infinitly more useful but at almost zero relative expense.

The supply of diamonds is also extremely limited, but this is by artificial means. The market is less than one-third the size of the currently available diamonds.

You've kind of answered your own questiont here, if an element of danger is involved in finding something, the price goes up.

Also Diamonds are also on of the hardest substances known to man, you need a diamond to cut a diamond. PLUS there are only found in some of the most hositle environments we know of (most Diamonds come from Africa). Diamonds, despite there abundance, can be hard to locate too, or so I'm told.

So all in all, you're average Diamond is expensive to mine, expensive to protect and expensive to cut and mount in whatever piece of jewellery it is they are making. All in all making for an expensive piece of rock.

FYI: Diamonds are just compressed carbon. Anyone ever seen Superman II where he crushes the lump of coal and turns it into a diamond for Lois?? Theoretically you can do that. Coal, when subjected to intense pressure AND heat can be turned into a diamond

Who told you they were dangerous? They might be expensive, but they are beautiful and most girls love them, the more the better. Maybe they are only dangerous to a man's bank account?

Um, in what way do you mean dangerous? It is correct they are used in drilling and cutting equiptment as they are the hardest substance known to man but I've never heard of them being called dangerous.
Am I missing your point?

If proven dangerous, then let them be devalued, and move to the next issue.
