No religion has taught to hate other people (Hinduism, Buddhism, christianity, Islam etc.,). In fact improper following of the religion has led to chaos in society. We always take whichever is convenient and leave whichever is inconvenient to follow. All this has led to a conscience of convenience and not a conscience of conviction. People of this nature will hate others, cause untold miseries to society.

People have to have something to believe in, so religion is their answer. No religion teaches about hatred, war, killing, or terrorism. This is just the leaders wanting to be ALL powerful. At the end of the day, a lot of people believe in something, be it God, Buddha, or any other God for that matter. So if most of us believe in someone, why cant we all get together, and travel the same journey, along the same path, and when the end of the path comes in sight, We will know the answer. Religion is not the cause of wars, its man's ignorance, of others. No man should have to go and fight someone else's war, just to lose his life. Let the offending countries fight it out between themselves. I dont agree with one race going into someone elses country and telling them what to do. "When in Rome" as the saying goes.

Catholicism is one of the religions which appeals to atrocity hatred and war so still are people catholic . People still follow their leaders because they offer a better vision of "life after life" ... Also a big danger if you don't go after the rules . Of course depends of culture too and education. For example in my religion are saying "do what the priest is telling you not what the priest is doing " !

Religion itself is not the main cause of hatred, war and atrocity. But its exclusion of other religions probably is. In fact, it goes for all kinds of ideologies, be it democracy or communism so long as it seeks a complete dominance over the whole world.

Because the religious people who are involved with the wars etc never believe that it is _their_ religion that's the cause of it. They truly believe that if everyone converted to their religion, peace would reign and everyone would be happy. As for why they follow their leaders, people have a tendency to do just that. (see milgrim experiments for info on authority)

People follow religious leaders because they are afraid that our short lives are all that there is. They either wish to find fullfillment in this life or fear of nothingness in the afterlife.
