You can change it by deed poll, but you dont have too. You can simply start using your new name. Write to everyone who holds your details such as your bank, doctor, National insurance ect and inform them. After 2 years usage you can legally regisiter the change with the GRO who will record the change on your birth certificate, this makes it easier to have your new name regisitered on your passport.
I changed my name last year and there were no problems at all, however some buisnesses might ask for additional proof that you are who you say you are. If you dont want to wait 2 years you can simply take out an advertisement in your local paper making the name change public. If you need more information contact the General Registry Office for the country in which you live, they will give you all the info you need.

You can go to any solicitor's office in your home town and formally change it by "deed poll" - a very quick and simple procedure. However under English law you do not need to do anything except inform parties that you have changed your name and now wish to be known as "????" - provided that it is not part of a fraud.
However, I suggest you do go via the "deed poll" procedure as it is useful evidence if, for example, you need to prove your identity on your - driving licence/ exam certificates/ passport/ marriage certificate etc.
If your documents do not show your current (ie changed name) - you may be asked to provide evidence of the change of name. If you have the deed poll - you already have that evidence, if not you will probably need to swear an oath or something similar at a lawyer's office. So why not save yourself time and go for the deed poll now?

I've just changed the surname of my son for a cost of £48 by Deed poll. Just go to their website and follow the instructions. You will need a witness to sign your papers but you won't be able to change your surname on your birth certificate.

visit the courthouse and fill out an utility. i imagine they make you do an ad contained in the newspaper, saying that you're replacing your call. Then if someone needs to contest it, they could. i believe the filing fee became about 50 bucks, notwithstanding it may well be more effective now. also, the ad will run you a effective bite of replace. It probable takes about ninety days to regulate your call.

Check with your courts, and check with the provisions, and they will lead you the right direction,,
As long as you are not doing a name change to defraud, in the united states, you can call yourself anything, even Madonna, elvis etc,, but you can also go to court and have it legally recorded, and changed, no big deal,

You can have it legally changed by deed poll, but I think you need to go to your local registry office to find out how to do this.

my husband changed his to his step fathers name as he never knew his real dad or sperm donor as he likes to call him, any how all you have to do is go to a solicitor and they will sort out all the forms for you, you then have to do the swearing in thing when you hand the forms in and it will all be sorted, you will recieve certificates etc to prove your new name, it cost my hubby 50 pounds 12yrs ago so its prob gone up a bit now, good luck.

I understand you can call yourself anything you like as long as you dont intend to defraud anyone, just inform everyone of your new name.
