I'm an active mother in my sons schools and I've always taken notices to the children in my sons classes and during lunch or field trips.. And there is always a child alone.. I always make it a point to ask for that child when I go on class trips along with the other 3 or 4 kids I have along with my own.. Its always nice to see the child happy becuase she/he was included by someone that actually cares.. I make it a point to make sure my son talks to them and be very kind.. I believe that the reward of a smile is well worth the time to say hello..
Its not just with the little children but everywhere.. Am I the only one what will actually speak passing by? Smile? Wave?
You never know what a person is going through and I believe that just saying hello and being polite brightens up their day.. even in passing a friendly smile may have just saved their day from grumbling...

You are right. You are making a good thing. When I was little I had many family problems, i was upset, and i was alone a lot, but now one cared.

Yes. Everyone needs a friend or at least a smile. The smallest gesture can save someone's life because that person could be depressed or something and if you smile at them and say hi it will brighten their mood

I was in the classroom for 20 years--- I did the same thing.. Now I have ALL the grown up (kids) come up to me and say " hello ms smith"!! You Wuz, my favorite teacher!! NOW I am the one smiling and thinking "WHO THE HECK ARE YOU?" as they have all gained weight. lost their hair. grew a beard, had 4 kids!!!! But, I do remember that kind of kid.... And they were indeed sad....

I think they are shy when they saw strangers...you try to say something nicely to keep their attention...for example...just say...your dress is beautiful.and cute
or you hair has its good colour
