Andres Escobar of COLOMBIA was shot dead upon his return from the 1994 FIFA World Cup finals held in United States.
In the tournament, he has scored an own goal against the host, United States which condemn his team to defeat. COLOMBIA lost 2-1 & was eliminated from the tournament in the group stage.

Andres Escobar from Colombia. He was NOT murdered because of scoring an own goal. Even worse than that, he was murdered in the parking lot of a club by a drunken mobster because of a pushing and shoving bar brawl.
