This might sound a bit mean but my barn is FULL of swallows. Would it be a bad idea to feed them to my Ball Python?

1. Barn swallows provide a great service to you and your neighbors by eating thousands of insects. You should encourage them not try to kill them.
2. You should never feed wild animals to your pets. That is a good way to introduce various diseases & parasites. Not a good idea.
3. I have heard of people feeding baby chicks to their snakes. However baby birds.chicks are not the best food for snakes. They are OK occasionally but not as their normal meal.
4. Ball pythons usually become imprinted on their meal items. That means they get used to what they are normally fed and may refuse to eat anything else.

Leave those swallows alone!!!

That would be a very, very bad idea. Barn swallows are protected by the federal government (they are a migratory bird), which means that killing them (feeding them to your snake would be included here) would carry the maximum penalty, which can include prison time as well as hefty fines.

Your swallows even though annoying are eating thousands of bugs for you. Enjoy them. Don't feed them to your snake.

Ball pythons are picky eaters. If you change their normal food item you may have a hard time changing them back. I would stick with their normal diet.
Besides, it is never a good idea to feed your snakes animals that you catch outside.

Wild birds carry ailments and keep provided birds are too extreme priced.
