The pineapple is the fruit of a large bromelliad. It grows upright amid a clump of spiny leaves and has smaller spiny leaves at the top. If you cut off that top with a little of the flesh, you can plant it in a pot and it will root and produce a new pineapple plant. Depending on whether you can give it the right conditions of heat and moisture, you may be lucky to see it flower and produce a new pineapple (you will need quite a large pot!).
