No , kids don't need guns then , now, or ever! Do they make kids more violent? Well hello, of course they do . We should teach our children that guns are for killing, and killing is evil. We should teach them that war is also evil, and so are countries that make war happen!

Children play with anything around them. They also see the most horrendous images of death and destruction of war brought to them daily and hourly by TV - Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon are some of the current ones (Northern Ireland, Argentine, Vietnam would be those experienced by previous generations). While I disagree with buying children guns - not least because trigger-happy police may mistake them for the real thing - children will make their own guns with all sorts of materials, and play out some of the 'wars' in play. Given that we adults have made the world such a violent place for them we can't complain that children will reflect that violence in play. But as children play other roles in play, like doctors and nurses, cowboys and Indians, it does not mean that they will strive to be warriors when they are grown up. Some of them of course do. They would however equally emulate the bravery of peacekeepers and people mediating in conflict (which takes some guts!) but where are the role models? Bush and Blair perhaps?

This kind of thing really pisses me we're living nanny state as it is never mind this sort of thing. When i was a kid (not that long ago lol) i was allowed to play with any thing, toy gun's swords etc.. and it never did me or my mates any harm, there's not a violent bone in my body. The and same goes for so called violent video games parents should be allowed to make their own choices for their children and not be pushed or finger waged at by stupid middle class mothers and fathers with no common sense, just let kids be kids thats what i say...

Interesting question. When my son was a toddler we took him to a daycare center where all of the parents were very careful to not have toy guns, didn't watch violent movies (especially ones with guns) and were very nonviolent. Sure enough, the kids would chew their cookies into "gun" shapes and "bang bang, pow, pow" each other!!! I personally think it doesn't make any difference at all. Violent behavior in children (or adults) is more than likely acting out or caused by psychological or medical problems. That said, remember we ARE A VIOLENT ANIMAL!!!! We are not related to the benign sloth or panda, but rather the violent and agressive chimpanzee is our closest living relative.

My brother and I played with guns (toys) and shot real ones our whole lives. Neither of us are violent. We just liked to play cops and robbers, war, and stuff like that. I think the real difference is that our parents always made it clear to us the difference and what real guns could do. We were always taught that killing is permanent and that you couldn't say "I'm sorry" and take it all back. We also were taught never to point a real gun at someone unless we wanted to kill them. Maybe that is harsh by today's standards, but I'm glad that some of my upbringing was harsh. It taught me that life can be also, and made me better able to handle that fact.

well don't let play with dolls either or they will become gay!!
I don't think there is any harm in it as always the little kids will be on the winning side and thus giving them a little confidence which every child needs, kids that are kept out the loop by overbearing mothers will quite often be the ones that will be unruly or violent as they have had less interaction.

analyze have shown that little BOYS will chosen to play with a gun over the different variety of toy given the alternative. Genetically boys are merely diverse, as they're diverse chemically, emotionally, bodily and so on. and so on.... even if we verify to confess it or no longer. SO easily, retaining little boys from taking area in with guns is merely an exercising in futility! even if, as a mom, i ought to assert that even if i did not supply up IT with my son - i did not supply him a million guns and that i did not grant even better violent and weapon promotion video games, video clips, activities and activities which i imagine is the position the violence stems from. merely harmless play with toys like that hurts no individual in my opinion. BEING surrounded with suggestions from infinite streams of guns, conflict-fare video clips & video games, video clips, searching, and different violent photos & issues does the pastime even if in time. My son receives a kick out of such video games and activities now even if it does no longer completely embody WHO he's like it does with some boys. i imagine 'moderation in all issues" is the major.

Yes they should. Children should be able to play anything they want. It is up to you the parent to see that the child grows up to be a decent human being. It is not the movies they watch or the music they listen to or the games they play it is how us ADULTS teach them. If we don't dicipline them for their actions they grow up to be spoiled or violent.

Their have been studies highlighting both points of view. But there is no answer on this. What is worse is to shelter children from violence. Rather it is more important to teach them why. If children are able to see the difference from play and reality they will be well balanced.

No, watching the news has never contributed. Violence stems from how a child is brought up and what they are taught.
