who thinks that whinny people should be ignored if not ignored what to do with them??

this person is my friend andhe is about 50 years old and he seems tho whine about everthing i think it might be a mental health thing

Using behavioral therapy perspective, I'd say yes, whininess can be quelled by ignoring the whiner. However, you must be careful when to ignore. Also, keep in mind of the context of the whining. If the person person is whining because you're ignoring them too much, I doubt ignoring would work out too well. Look for behaviors that are desirable and reward them while ignoring most of the whining the person is doing. If they are truly a 'whiny person' (ie chronically whines), then you might want to visit a psychologist so that you can cope with the unwanted behavior. That is, however, if the person's whining is actually part of their personality.

Either ignore them or change the subject. If that doesn't work ask them why they are always whining and that it doesn't sound nice.

mimic them. if you are in an apporpriate place to do this. and the person isnt your boss. let them know what they sound like. from someone who hates whiney people more than almost anyone besides perverts and prejudiced people.
