"I am shocked and deeply distressed by the apparently deliberate targeting by Israeli Defence Forces of a UN observer post in southern Lebanon"
"The co-ordinated artillery and aerial attack on a long established and clearly marked UN post ... occurred despite personal assurances given to me by (Israeli) Prime Minister Ehud Olmert that UN positions would be spared Israeli fire."
United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan 7/25/06
"But you need to look at the events of yesterday,” he urged. “The shelling of the UN position, which is long-established and clearly marked, started in the morning and went on till after 7:00 p.m., when we lost contact.”
“You can imagine the anguish of the soldiers and the men and women – unarmed military observers – who were down there in the service of peace,” he said, stressing that the peacekeepers were in frequent touch with the Israeli army, pleading with them to avoid striking their location"
Kofi Annan, 7/26/06, Rome

The new spin on this issue is that a Canadian sent an e-mail saying that Hezbollah were firing rockets only several feet away from the peace-keepers (this peace keeper is now dead. Read into it what you may). Despite the fact that the General in charge warned the Israelis, they found it necesary to murder an internationally accepted peace keeping force. The arrogance of these people is astounding. Of course they have the American shield.

If it is okay for Israel to start pounding Lebanon with mortar, killing inoccent Lebanese, Syrians, Africans, Europeans etc all in the name of "2 kidnapped Israeli soldiers", while Bush and Rice urges them on and the UN looks the other way, then it is not a question of what is right whether the same Israeli kills UN peacekeepers or Bush's family or Rice or Kofi Annan or the entire UN stooges during their next meeting.

Silly question... of course it isn't "okay." Nor is it "okay" that children are in the middle of a war zone.
The fact of the matter is that Israel is not choosing it's targets to harm innocent people... Hezbollah is hiding behind the innocent and attempting to use them as shields and more importantly as political fodder - as press-worthy bait. If you'll read the news just a tad more accurately and look into the history of this struggle you'll tune into this whole thing a little more wisely.
This is not the kind of war that anyone is accustom to... it's a newly escalated revision of a cowardly tactic used years ago to intentionally draw a forceful response from the Israeli military...all in an effort to effect public opinion... Hezbollah is the same little boys who formerly tossed stones at tanks to incite an over-powerful response from the Israelis thus causing innocent victims to fall in harms way... it made good press back then and it's making the same kind of press today. Those former stone tossing boys have all grown up now and they're lobbing rockets instead of stones. Like cunning flies, they pester the sleeping lion into action and then blame the dumb beast for it's bad temper.
Shame on the bad little boys and shame on the dumb beast...

Hezbollah has no regard for human life by their actions of indescriminately firing rockets into Israeli territory, by staying close to UN and civilian positions and claiming PR victories when Israeli ordinance goes off target.
Kofi is a terrorist appeasing idiot, who should've already had his ineffective peacekeepers out of harms way a long time ago. But I guess he's too busy ignoring the genocide in the Sudan and counting his oil for food profits to actually give a rats a** about the morality of his terrorist buddies........

Israel is probably attempting to intimidate the UN. It is trying to show that it does not give a damn about dying innocent people, children, women, men who have nothing to do with this dirty war. Israel is acting treacherously. Strongly backed by Bush and Rice, Israel continues its offensives leaving thousands of people in great suffering. However, it has already gained a lot of hatred from all over the world, if this means anything to it at all.

Yes......if they are in a war zone. Anyone who is in a war zone runs a risk of being killed. War is not supposed to be polite and courteous. That's the reason we are having such problems in Iraq. The cowardly terrorists attack us from mosques, civilian homes and schools and public opinion back home keeps the military from doing its job. That's why the Israelis are doing it right. They are going after the terrorists no matter where they are and if a few civilians get killed in the process it's their fault for being there. That's exactly what we should be doing in Iraq, but the hand-wringing liberals would rather see 100 of our soldiers die than one innocent Iraqi civilian. Silly liberals, soft on terrorists......hard on fetuses.

There is a complete lack of regard for life from the israelis, anyone who can quite happily bomb and murder, yes murder, innocent children will have no problem whatsoever bombing and murdering innocent bystanders, sad and all as it is, I'm afraid thats the way it is at the moment and while the G8 stand and stare in like a rabbit in the headlights thats the it will stay.

With America giving its blessings to Israel to commit atrocities against humans, they will not differentiate whether they are Lebanese or peace keeping forces. The bombs dropped on the UN positions were most probably those which USA hurriedly sent to Israel to murder humans at will.

If you would do a little research, you'd find reports filed by those same UNIFIL men, begging for them to be removed from the area because Hezbollah was firing from near their position and then moving closer to it for safety.
While I abhor the deaths of the UNIFIL guys, I really really do, where is the condemnation of Kofi for not removing them from danger?
