for U.S planes to stop off, whilst taking munitions to Israel.

Regardless of whether one agrees or not with the present conflict, It seems that our Govt is saying that the necessary protocols were not adhered to as regards these flights! No mention of wether they agree in principal to the use of U.k airports.
Just wonder how much they did know of this?

I was surprised to hear that Prestwick Airport was still being used for air traffic! Probably why the Americans would chose it to send all sorts of dodgy cargoes in the hope of not being noticed...

But seriously. Regardless of the politics, there's a big issue here. One simply cannot allow munitions to be secretly flown in or out of airports, either civil or military, un-announced. Imagine what would happen if there was an accident? I cannot believe, for this reason, that the British Government did not somehow know about these cargoes, and must have somehow given permission. So far, "protests" by Ms. Beckett at the FO seem somewhat half-hearted.

Either way it's a pretty depressing situation for us Brits. Either we roll over and do as the Bush administration wants, or we are considered so unimportant that the Bush administration steamrollers right over us.

I wouldn't be surprised too if the UK arms manufacturers are not working themselves up into a feeding frenzy over the current Middle East crisis.

This statement was made by the Prestwick Airport:

"That support involves allowing crew to rest, refuelling aircraft and providing food and water.

"The airport is obliged to allow aircraft from any CAA-registered country to land here."

I live 30 miles from Prestwick Airport and am very much against support for the Israeli army under any means. The Israelis are brutal and deceptive fighters and deserve zero support from the US. In reality any US President will always give it because he/she wants support for their Jewish voters back home.

Prestwick Airport is under a mandate to assist this flight which sadly carries malicious cargo. Do not blame the airport, blame the Israelis and the White House for their backing.

Zulu are you sure you've got your facts right?. I've not read anything about this is any of the National or Scottish newspapers?

Just read the other postings and I have to say that in my case ignorance is not bliss. Pity we can't protest against such goings on. That Blair man should be lynched for allowing this to happen never mind the White house and Israel.

It's just another case of breaking the rules. Guns for contras in nicaragua - bad. Bombs for the nazi government of Israel to punish groups of civillians - good. Death penalty unacceptable and against the Human Rights charter. Saddam Hussein - hang him!

I heard this on the radio into work, it's a microcosm of our 'special relationship' with the US.

I.e. we just do as we're told and the UK is a useful fixed aircraft carrier for the US into the wider world.

Maybe we should be renamed the USS Brittania!

Of course we should allow them to do it.

We are the US's lapdogs after all. How else are they going to get the bombs over to Israel in order to kill hundreds of innocent civilians?
