Capoeira is and art that was created by African slaves when they were brought to Brazil in 'navios negreiros' which were ships filled with african slaves. They arrived in Brazil, and after a while they got tired of being slaves and started gathering amongst themselves and practicing their ouwn music and dances. Slowly, the mix of their respectivs cultures started to transform itself into a dance that imitated animal positions and movements, and they realized that they could use it to free themselves from their patrons. They could practice with other slaves because since it was danced, and with music, the patrons would'n notice they were actually training. So they started to free themselves little by little and developed what is now practiced as a sport. Capoeira. Capoeira as a word has several meanings. The most common one is land vegetation, because the slaves had to move close to the ground in order to be able o escape from the farms.
