I think it was Zidane. He started off slow, but he was simply magical in the brazil and spain games. He is one of the greatest players ever. We will be telling out kids and grandkids that we got to see him play.
other runnerups:
Buffon was amazing, Lehman was great, Michael Essien played well...
i'm glad we are still having world cup questions, i can't believe its over and we have to wait four years now.

Zinedine Zidane of course..no reason at all as he is simply the greatest footballer ever of the Germany 2006..that is why he won the Golden Ball Award..eventhough he had done something that he really shouldn't do,which is headbutting Materazzi,I will always consider him as the greatest footballer ever..you know why? because he is a human who has the feeling of angriness..

i think the best player of germany 2006 was oliver kahn
because he did not get the chance to play the world cup which he deserved very much
he was sitting on the bench for full tornament and observing the game very nicely. and even supporting the team which dint do any justice to him.
hope that u will select my answer as the best answer . as i wasted 10 minitues for sending a answer. bye.good day

Fabio Cannavarro (Italy). An excellent player, plays fair, great captain and a good leader in his team, cool, composed and controlled, flawless defending, managed to master his territory in the absence of Nesta. He's just been fantastic. A well deserved player and captain to lift the World Cup.

Hi..
for me the best player in the whole world cup was Miroslav Klose of Germany...coz he indeed played very well....all i cud say is luck actually dint favour them during their semi finals against italy...i can even give reminders 4 tht ...like the one hit by Micheal Ballack touched the goal post and diverted...then even by podolski and schweignider were missed.....wish germany wud hv won!!!

I guess it is Aaron Lennon and Robinho..they both deserve to be in the starting line up of their country for what ever threat they could actually post when when they sub into the game..i admire them for their impact as whenever they are sub in..they make a big change into the game by their wonderful flair and speed and their tricks to go past defender..

Nobody's a bigger Germany fan than me, but I will say Zidane as well.
Those two games against Spain and Brazil... nobody played like that. Especially against Brazil, he just played soccer from a different planet. He was both wonderful to watch and his efficiency deadly.

i go for Zidane. He was not looking promising at the beginning but against Brazil, his play was off the hook. Though i was disappointed with the act with Materazzi but he still remains my best in the just concluded world cup

zidane 'cause he put the first goal in the final. And he should not actually headbutt the italian player,he should have killed him 'cause the italian called three grave words on zidane's mother and sister.if it was me as zidane ,the first time the italian called me the grave word, the italian's death will be on that day. i know that zidane should not have done this in front of the world but he has only one mother in this world which he should take good care of him.
